He can’t be aware of what is going on in the house if the door is closed, may make him uncomfortable and unable to relax and sleep. I do this so if anything happens at night I stand a better chance of detecting it and doing something. Some rooms just get stuffy when people are sleeping in the same closed up area. He could also be claustraphobc.
