Explain magnetostriction property. Explain generation of ultrasonic using magnetostriction

1 Answer

Answer :

When a ferromagnetic material is magnetized then the material exhibit small change in its dimensions, this phenomenon is called magnetostriction effect. Iron crystal expands when magnetized in easy direction and contracts when magnetized in hard direction. Magnetic permeability is dependent on the magnetostriction effect the magnetostriction effect should be minimized in order to obtain high value of permeability.

Magnetostriction property is used in generation of following ultrasonic waves

1.ultrasonic signaling 2.ultrasonic cleaning 3.ultrasonic soldering 4.ultrasonic drilling.
