Why are generators rated in kVA not in kW ?

3 Answers

Answer :

Power factor varies depend upon load.. So kW changes... kVA Independent of power factor..... That's why generator rated in kVA

Answer :

kw² + kvar² =kva². The power factor and the load to which the generator is to be connected is not known that's why it rated in kva

Answer :

Because It's rating of generator kva is apparent power. Kw is active power which we use. And one is kvar reactive power.
