DC generator : DC generator is electrical machine which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. Or we can say DC generator is a electromechanical energy conversion device. The input of DC generator is ωT (angular speed x torque) and output of DC generator is VI (voltage x current). The output of mechanical system is given to input of DC generator and output of DC generator is given to input of electrical system. DC generator gives direct current as a output. DC generator is based on dynamically induced EMF, dynamically means in motion. Essential parts of DC generator are magnetic field and conductors which can so move as to cut the flux. Basically DC generator works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. Electromagnetic induction is when a conductor cuts across the magnetic field, an EMF is induced in it. DC generator works on Fleming right hand rule. Thumb shows the direction of motion, forefinger shows the direction of magnetic field and middle finger shows the direction of current.

Working principle of DC generator: * Working principle of DC generator is the principle of dynamically induced emf or electromagnetic induction. * According to this principle, when flux is cut by a conductor, an emf is induced in the conductor. * In case of DC generator, when armature winding is rotated in magnetic field by the prime mover, the flux is cut by the armature winding and an emf is dynamically induced in it.
