How to Paint High Ceilings
Painting high ceilings may just be one of the most challenging home improvement tasks you have to do. You have to think of so many things to get the job done such as the drops of paint that might fall on your face and on the floor and the need to perhaps climb another ladder just to paint those hard-to-reach areas. If you want to score a good painting job and master the art of painting high ceilings, here are some tips you can follow:
Choose the best type of painting materials.
Use only the best type of paint to avoid redoing things. Make sure that you choose the right type of paint since there are many specialist paints used for different types of ceilings such as acoustic tile or textured coated. The former is mostly used for rooms built for listening to music or watching television.
Use sprayers instead of a brush or roller for ceilings with stucco-like plaster since the texture may crumble off. Practice on a different surface first and make sure that there is good ventilation available. If you notice that the spray is clogged up or if it spays out watery paint, the paint may be at the wrong consistency. A variety of brushes, rollers and sprays should be at your disposal. Some angles would also require you to do some hand painting so better keep your painting materials nearby.
Reduce dripping paint.
If you are painting on a new surface, use a primer to help hide discolorations. It will not only give you a good surface but will also help reduce drips. The paint should also be of perfect consistency. Try to test first on a vertical surface to check if the paint will drip.
Take your time in working on your roller since the paint may splatter all around the room if you don’t proceed with caution. Don’t overload the roller with paint and if you can, purchase an extension pole for your roller and extend it out at a slight angle to get things done faster and to prevent neck injuries. Just don’t extend the handle of the pole extension too far out since it will feel heavier to use.
