How to Find Your Hat Size
Hats are great fashion accessories, but if you insist on wearing ones that don’t fit you, then it’s not quite as great. Here’s how to ensure that every hat you purchase fits perfectly on you, and not sitting awkwardly on your head.
Tools
Measuring tape
Calculator
Vanity dresser with mirror
Procedure
Stand in front of the dresser, making sure you have a clear view of your whole head.
Put the tape measure around the circumference of your head. It should be placed around an inch above your eyebrows, hugging the widest part of your head.
Measure the circumference of your head not once, but twice. This is done to make sure you got the right measurement.
Note down the measurement in both centimeters and inches.
To get your basic hat size, divide the circumference measurement (by inches) to 3.14. The nearest number you get is your basic hat size.
However, this is not yet the end of the road. Each hat store goes by their own set of hat sizes. For example, a hat size seven in Store A may find its equivalent in the form of hat size eight in Store B, yet they fit you the same way.
Your best bet is to find a knowledgeable hat salesperson who will help you confirm if the hat measurement you’ve taken is correct.
You should also take into consideration the type of hat you’re looking for. A pageboy hat does not fit the same way as a hat, much as they do not fit the same way a wide-brimmed straw hat should.
A hat should fit comfortably over the widest circumference of your head. It should neither be too snug or too spacious. The hat should not be crammed over your head and neither should it be flying off at the smallest gust of wind. The hat should should hug your head comfortably.
If the hat doesn’t fit, go for another brand or store. Once you find a brand with sizes that fit you, you now have a source of fine-fitting hats whenever you need them.
