How to Wear a Cup
When one says “wearing a cup”, it usually doesn’t mean literally wearing a drinking cup. Athletic cups are used by male athletes to protect their groins from getting hurt or injured. They provide maximum security and prevents excessive movement. A male athlete should never go into a game or into a practice without wearing one. Here’s how to wear it properly.
Wear the cup over a pair of briefs. It should fit within the area of the briefs’ front panel. This is done to prevent the cup from chaffing the skin under the briefs.

Fit the cup properly around your family jewels. The cup should give support without being too snug or too loose. The size should match the athlete’s body as much as possible.
Use a jockstrap to hold the cup firmly in place. Make sure that the jockstrap hasn’t worn out its elasticity or else it might not hold in place.
Men should trim the pubic hair around the base of the penis and the scrotum area before putting on an athletic cup. This could prevent uncomfortable situations where hairs can be caught in the rims of their cups. (Tips on how to get rid of pubic hair for men)
There are two kinds of athletic cups: The V-shaped cup and the so-called banana cup. There is also a new type called the “Nutty Buddy” that tries to blend in the girth of the banana cup and the support of the V-cup. Athletes can use either one, granted that it conforms to their body more comfortably.
Each athletic sport has their own prescribed type of athletic cups and how to wear them. Boxers, for example, wear cups that have a padded waistband to protect their kidneys as well as their groins.
Individual team positions even have their own specialized athletic cups. For example, a goalie’s athletic cup is double-padded due to the higher possibility of him facing fast slap shots.
