In case of taxpayers of all classes except company, income tax returns have to be filed within the period of 3 months from 1st July to 30th September every year. If it is not possible to file the return within the stipulated time, a taxpayer may apply for time to the Deputy Commissioner of Taxes stating the appropriate reasons for extending the time limit for filing the return. If time permits, it is possible to file returns under the general or universal self-determination procedure within the extended period.
