Instructions
Step one: Figure out how much space will be needed for the correct size. You must assess the dog and measure out the proper equation. Building a doghouse for your four-legged friend can be a easy task.
Step two: Rip the 8′ 2×4 into 2×2 stock to be used as frame elements. From these, cut 4 pieces 12 1/2″ long.
Step three: Nail these pieces flat against the short edges of the sides. One frame piece should be placed starting at the top of each side corner, leaving a 3 1/2″ space at the bottom to allow the side panel to overhang the platform.
Step four: Also, attach frame pieces to the inside roofline of the front and back panels. The frame pieces should meet at the top, and extend along the roofline to approximately 2 1/2″ from the sides.
Step five: Put one of the sides in place. The edges of the side should align with the front and back of the platform. The side should be nailed to the platform at the bottom.
Step six: Now you can connect the back of the doghouse. Align it with the sides, and nail it in place, first against the platform, then into the 2″ x 2″ frame members in the corners. Do the same for the front.
Step seven: The next and last part would be to place the roof on and you’re finished. Whether you want a slanted roof or a flat roof would be your choice.
Some extra steps that you could take to make this doghouse extra special would be to add shingles to the outside of the doghouse. This will give the house a great look and add the finishing touches to the perfect house for your little, furry companion.
When you go down to the hardware store to purchase any materials that you may need, you should be able to find shingles that match your own homes for the perfect fit.
