How to Install Satellite Radio
If you’re often on the road, one great gadget you can have in your car is the satellite radio. It gives more variety, continuous programming without having to look for frequencies. To make sure you always have a pleasurable driving experience, here’s how to install a satellite radio in your vehicle.
What You’ll Need:
Satellite radio
Magnet-mount antenna
Car
Butter knife
Procedure:
Purchase a satellite radio from a electronics or auto accessory store. You can also do online purchase through various websites. Pick out a reliable brand to make sure you get quality performance. Famous brands include Sirius and XM Radio.
Open the new radio, and check if you’ve got all the equipment you need. You need to make sure everything is available, before beginning to install.
Decide where you’re going to place and mount the satellite radio on your car. You can use the suction mount for the windshield. Most radio brands have these mounts, and can be used for any type of car or truck. Mount the radio, making sure the wires are unattached.
Find the magnet roof antenna that comes with your radio. If, in a rare instance, the radio you purchase doesn’t have this, just buy one at a major retail store. Once you’ve got one, decide on a spot on your car roof where the antenna will sit. If your car’s a convertible, put it on the trunk.
Plug your antenna in the outlet on the radio. Just find the one that’s marked. Use a butter knife that has a rounded edge and push the antenna wire in the vehicle’s crevices, to hide them. It’s easy to do this around the door frame and window.
Put the magnet mount on the vehicle’s roof. There should be as little wire as possible showing outside the car. You don’t need to put any epoxy or adhesive on it, because the magnet will be sufficient.
Plug the power cord in the cigarette lighter, then attach to the radio. This will add power to the radio. Turn on the car radio and the satellite. If there’s no audio jack present, match the frequencies by turning or pressing the dial on satellite radio and car radio. The programming from the satellite radio will be heard through your car speakers.
A Few Reminders
Be careful when handling the knife as you tuck in the wires.
Don’t forget to call your service provider, so your account will be activated.
The location for your satellite radio must not obstruct your view of the road. It shouldn’t also pose any hazard in case an accident comes.
You can say goodbye to those long, boring and quiet drives if you have a satellite radio. Just follow these steps, and you’ll soon have one in your car.
