How to Lift a Truck
Trucks are one of the most useful and versatile vehicles on the road.  Not all trucks are built the same way, and sometimes you may need extra road-to-chassis clearance to properly navigate and drive through rocky or muddy roads.  To do that, you have to get your truck lifted to the proper clearance distance.

Why Lift a Truck?
Lifting a truck involves modifying the suspension system and changing wheel configurations to provide more clearance.  Clearance, in this case, refers to the distance between the surface of the road and the chassis of the vehicle.  Most trucks, especially off-roaders and 4×4s,  have an adequate clearance measurement.  The clearance may need to be altered to accommodate a driver’s needs or preferences:

Low road-to-chassis clearance provides more control and downforce, especially for large-engined trucks modified for track racing.  Some trucks may be lowered to provide added stylistic and visual appeal.
High road-to-chassis clearance lifts up the chassis of the truck to a higher level, which means that it can negotiate muddy or rocky roads and courses with ease.  Higher elevation poses problems like control and stability, but it can help you drive the truck better off-road.
Suspension Systems
One way to lift a truck’s road-to-chassis clearance is to change the suspension system.  Most truck manufacturers have already configured spring-loaded or pneumatic suspension systems to a height that strikes the best balance between control and clearance.  There are two ways that an auto mechanic can add clearance from the suspension:

Suspension modification. The suspension system can be mechanically changed and altered to add more lift.
Changing the suspension system. Most mechanics prefer to change the existing suspension system installed and configured by the manufacturer with aftermarket parts.
Wheel and Tire Height
Another way to provide adequate ground-to-chassis clearance is to replace the wheels and tires of the truck.  Larger rims and tires can boost up the height of your truck, making it possible for you to move through difficult terrain.  Trucks with altered suspension systems are usually fitted with new wheels and tires to provide stability and maximize the new configuration for the chassis.

It’s best to have a professional customizer re-fit your vehicle with new tires and suspension systems to ensure that the whole vehicle withstands the stress and strain of driving off-road.  With these tips, you can have a good idea on how you can make your truck even more versatile than it already is.
