Remove the broken roof flashing as well as the surrounding shingles and the shingles on top of the old roof flashing. If you’re careful when removing the shingles, you can reuse them after installing the new roof flashing.
Loosen the roof flashing’s siding as well as the bottom of the siding, if applicable. Don’t damage the sliding as you’ll still need it when you’re putting the new roof flashing under the sliding.
Cut out a new piece of roof flashing using the metal snips. Make sure that you make the cutting a little longer than a little shorter than the old roof flashing.
Crimp the new flashing using the metal break, bending it down to the middle at 90 degrees. If you’re replacing a flashing along a valley on the roof, this step is not required.
Put the new flashing on the spot where the old one used to be, readjusting when needed. Nail it down using the hammer and roof nails. Make sure that the nails go towards the edges where they can be covered by the shingles or the siding.
Replace the shingles and the siding by nailing the shingles and siding back into place, on top of the new roof flashing. To seal the outside edges of the singles, use roof cement sealant. This is done so that the water cannot go back from the flashing under the shingles. Let the roof cement sealant dry completely.
