A bit of peanut butter
Protective gloves
Plastic bag
Procedure
Put on your protective gloves, just in case the trap snaps on your hand.

Prepare the trap near evening, as mice usually like to forage for food in the night time.
Locate the locking bar, the long metal pin that holds back the U-shaped snap bow. You should be pretty familiar with that snap bow, as this is the instrument that kills the trapped mouse.
Remove the staple that holds the locking bar back.
Look for the bait pedal, the curly metal piece on the opposite side of the U-shaped snap bow. Once you do, put bait on top of the bait pedal. Unlike common belief, peanut butter is the best bait and not cheese. Other good choices for bait include salami and bacon.
Pull the snap bow back and keep it in place with your thumb. Use your other hand to pull back the locking bar, hook the curved and put under the U-shaped metal loop at the end of the trap.
You have now set the trap. Put it somewhere perpendicular the wall, where the mice usually pass. Leave it be overnight.
Check for the killed mouse the next day. If you have successfully killed a rat, pull back the U-shaped snap bow and put the dead rat in a plastic bag, to be thrown away in trash can. Make sure that you’re wearing your protective gloves as you do this.
Reset the trap if you need to, and move it to another location. Mice can actually catch on the idea that the area has a trap, and may learn to avoid it. Moving the trap around will help keep the trap effective.
