How to Wire a Lamp
Wiring a lamp is something you need to do just in case your lamp breaks, and it so happens you keep on forgetting to get it repaired. It’s a relatively easy process, with steps that can be applied to a variety of lamps. Read on for more.

Tools
Wire cutter
Pliers
Screwdriver set with varying bit ends
Procedure
Make sure that the lamp is unplugged and both the shade and the light bulb removed.
Twist out the cap of the lamp socket. Once revealed, pull out the metallic lamp socket slightly.
You’ll notice that near the clicker or the switch of the lamp, there are two screws that connect to the two wire nodes on either side. Use the appropriate screwdriver bit to loosen these screws. Unwrap the wires wrapped around the screws.
Observe that there are copper wires coming out from the wire insulation. Try to expose a bit of the copper wires by using your pliers to gently peel off the covers. You can skip this step if you feel that there’s enough exposed copper wiring.
Get the exposed wire and twist it around the loosened screw opposite from where it was originally screwed. Twist it tightly, and make sure that it doesn’t make contact with the other wire.
Screw the screws back on.
Reattach the lamp socket, making sure that the switch goes into the sockets. Screw the light bulb back on, and put the shade on top.
Try if the wiring was done correctly by plugging the lamp in and switching it on.
If you’re dealing with a new lamp, you can easily buy a lamp wiring kit in most hardware stores. You just need to thread the wires through the interior of the lamp, and screw the two separate wires into the screws near the lamp socket.
Knowing how to wire a lamp by yourself will also be a great help if you found the perfect lampshade from the flea market. Good luck.
