How to Replace Edge Trimmer Line
An edge trimmer line is a very efficient equipment for any avid gardener. This small diameter line, usually made of plastic or other material, cuts various vegetation, as well as weeds and grass. Over time though, the string breaks or splits, meaning you have to replace it. Here’s how to do it properly.
What You’ll Need:
Trimmer string
Screw driver
WD-40
Procedure:
Find out the correct size of your edge trimmer line. Lines can vary in sizes, ranging from .065 to .160. The typical measurement is .80 mm, used by homeowners or landscapers for cutting grass. There are larger varieties, though, for commercial trimmers that cut small bushes and heavy weeds.
Locate the cap. You can find this at your trimmer spool’s bottom.
Take out the spool, throwing away any piece of string that’s left over.
Get the replacement coil and unroll the string from it. Cut a piece that’s about six to eight feet long.
Feed this string through the spool, at the starter hole.
Wind the string carefully on the spool. Your string must be loaded in the direction stated at the spool’s side.
There must be six to eight inches of string left at the spool’s end. Carefully thread this through the spool, at the bottom of the opening.
Put the spool back in the trimmer, then feed the string going through the hole at the trimmer head’s side.
Put back the cap at the trimmer’s bottom. You’re ready to start landscaping again.
Some Tips:
If the trimmer spool is still rotating, don’t touch it.
Silicone spray or WD-40 can be used to clean the trimmer head. This removes debris and other built up trimmings.
Be very careful when using an edge trimmer line, since it will cut through flesh, just as it does through grass.
A lawn with finely-cut grass would be possible if you replace your edge trimmer lines regularly. It’ll save you time and give you a great-looking landcaping.
