To do away from the problems associated with wood, such as high costs and decaying, alternative materials were introduced to the deck-builder market. Composite materials are the most popular among these alternative materials, which are produced by mixing wood and plastic. EverGreen Deck is one of the brands that deviate from both these customs.
Composition
EverGreen decking materials are not wood, nor composites. They are engineered plastic pieces made by combining ABS, High Impact Polystyrene, and Polycarbonate. Since this type of plastic pieces are very rigid, EverGreen materials offer twice as much strength as composites, but remain light. In contrast to composites, EverGreen is also produced from less amount of materials, so its manufacturers are able to offer it at competitive prices. When compared to wood, these materials are also resistant to common problems like cracking, delamination and splinters.
Working with EverGreen Decking Materials
Painting with oil and latex paints is not possible for EverGreen decks. Despite this, the products are pre-finished in five different colors, such as sand, pearl, oak, weathered teak, and evergreen. The quality of their external surface is expected to last for a long time, although it is also prone to burning and decay. A repair kit can be purchased from EverGreen suppliers, if this happens.
Since EverGreen decking materials are made of plastic, no wood flour is present that allows mold and moss to grow. If you observe such growths on the surfaces of your deck, this means that some dirt are stuck on them. You may hose down your deck to remove the dirt and the moss or mold clinging on it.
Working with EverGreen decking materials does not require any special tools. In fact, any circular or hand saw can cut the boards since they are hollow. You need not pre-drill the boards using power tools. An electric driver can damage the groove edge of the board; aregular decking screw can be used instead.
