Rainfed fanning is classified on the basis of adequacy of soil moisture into two (i) dryland farming and (ii) wetland farming: • Dry land farming: (i) It is confined to the regions having annual rainfall less than 75 cm. These areas/regions grow hardy and drought resistant crops such as-ragi, bajra, moong gram, and guar (fodder crop). (ii) Various measures of soil moisture conservation and rain water harvesting are being practised. • Wetland farming: (i) It is confined in the region where rainfall is in excess of soil moisture requirement of plants during rainy season. These regions faced flood and soils erosion hazards. (ii) Water intensive crops are grown—rice, jute, and sugarcane and practise aquaculture in the fresh water bodies.
