I am not Catholic or even Christian, but as far as I can see, when Jerome translate The Bible into Latin, he was making a good-faith effort to produce an accurate translation. All translation is inherently risky because in many cases, there are multiple possible translations, and in selecting one of them, the translator is making an editorial decision where personal bias and outside knowledge can color the translation. As such, I do not see Jerome's work in producing the Latin Vulgate as, in any sense, deliberate or malicious. Nonetheless, he does come at the text with clear Christian biases that lead him to emphasize, in his translation, Christian readings of passages that need not have been intended, when written, to admit of such readings.
