Eurozone countries all had their own national currencies, whichhad to be exchanged when travelling across borders. There was theAustrian schilling, Belgian and French francs, German mark, Greekdrachma, Irish pound, Italian lira, Spanish pesata, and a handfulof others. A few European countries, such as Great Britain,Switzerland, and most of Scandinavia have remained on their owncurrencies.
