Germination is the growth of a plant from a seed. There are several ways a person can germinate a seed. The seed can be put in a small amount of water, just enough to cover or wet the seed. This will start the seed to germinate and grow a small root from the seed. You can now take the seed that has started to root and plant them in the ground or a growing trail to grow the plant. Some people will germinate a seed directly in the ground. Farmers will dig small trenches in the earth and plant the seed directly in the soil. The soil is kept wet and within 3 to 5 days you'll start to see a small plant poke up from the earth. Seeds can be germinated in growing trays. You'll fill the trays with potting soil and place a single seed in each compartment of the tray. Each day you will water the soil to keep it moist so the seed can grow a root and the small plant can start growing up through the soil. I've seen people use paper towels to germinate seeds. They will place their seed on a paper towel and wet the towel. They must keep the towel wet in order for the seed to start a root. Progagation is a bit different. This is a simpler way to grow a plant. A cutting is taken from the parent plant and used to grow a new plant. Some plants only need to be cut and planted back in the earth to grow again. Within 3 to 5 days the cutting will start to grow roots and the new plant will be able to start to grow. Some plants require that you place the cutting in a bowl, glass, or bucket of water. The water will help the cutting to start to root. Once the cutting has rooted they can now be planted. You can cut many small branches off a plant. When doing so it is best to cut the plants right above the joints. This gives the parent plant a chance to grow a new branch where it was cut and the cutting a chance to root so it can be planted again and grow. Another way to do this is by taking a branch of the parent plant, scratching away the bark from one small area, adding a small amount of moss to the area that you've scratched away. After you'll need to wrap the moss with aluminum foil to protect this area so the roots can start to grow. Once this happens you can now cut off the branch and plant it in the ground.
