Sports medicine is the medical specialty that studies the effects of sports and, in general, of physical activity, in the human body, from the point of view of the prevention and treatment of diseases and injuries. Also, this specialty is acquiring day by day a greater role in the field of health sciences. In addition, it is recognized that exercise produces benefits specially in cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, metabolic diseases, and to improve physical fitness in general through prevention and health promotion. For safety it must be formulated as if it were a medication, to define the dose, type, duration, frequency, and tolerance tests. It is also called sports medicine, physical activity medicine, physical education medicine, exercise medicine, medicine specializing in sports. Some think that the term sports medicine, although used by some media, is not used correctly, just as the term worker medicine is not correct, but work medicine. In an analogous way, the correct term is sports medicine.
