How to Sterilize Baby Bottles
Babies get sick easily. When caring for a baby, you have to make sure that all his things are free of germs. Washing his bottles with soap and water may not be enough. Luckily, there are ways to ensure that your baby’s bottles are completely cleaned. Sterilization is a process that removes microorganisms, like bacteria, on any surface.
There are many techniques used to sterilize objects. Here are some ways you can follow to sterilize baby bottles.
Clean
Before sterilizing bottles, nipples and pacifiers, make sure to wash them using warm water and a mild detergent soap. Rinse very well.
Boiling
Gather all bottles, nipples and pacifiers.

Put them in a saucepan filled with water.
Bottles should be submerged properly in the water.
Wait for the water to boil.
Keep the water boiling for 3-5 minutes to make sure that all bacteria are killed.
Carefully remove the saucepan from the stove.
Let it cool.
Remove the bottles, nipple and pacifiers. Put them in a rack to dry or wipe them with clean towels. You may also just leave them in the water until you need to use them. When doing this, be sure to cover the saucepan properly.
Steam Sterilization
You need to have a sterilizer for this method.
Fill the sterilizer with water up to the required level.
Put your bottles upside down in the sterilizer.
Cover the sterilizer.
This procedure would take about 8- 15 minutes depending on the kind of sterilizer you have. Check the user’s manual for additional instructions.
Microwave Sterilization
Buy a microwave sterilization apparatus that is appropriate for the baby bottles you have.
You might have problems with putting the bottles inside if you use a microwave sterilization unit that’s not right for your baby’s bottles.
Put the bottles in their proper slots.
You may be required to have 250 ml of water for sterilization.
The process takes about 8 minutes.
Cold Water Sterilization
Buy sterilization tablets. You can easily find these on the market.
Refer to the instructions.
It’s important to dissolve the tablet in the required amount of water. Having a diluted solution will not effectively eliminate bacteria.
It takes 30 minutes to complete the process.
You can keep the bottles in the solution for the entire day if you want to.
