Batting for the major leagues is the ultimate goal of die-hard baseball fans. Whenever they play baseball in their backyards, they imagine that they are in a stadium filled with thousands of screaming fans as they aim to hit a big home run. Mock baseball games are products from these fan’s fantasies and nothing could back up those fantasies better than a real baseball bat.
The baseball bat is the primary tool for the game of baseball. It adds a sense of realism to backyard baseball and can even improve your swing. Now, imagine using a baseball bat that is made by your own two hands. Doesn’t that sound more enjoyable?
Though more convenient, a baseball bat purchased from a sports store is a lot pricier than a makeshift bat. The raw materials used for making a baseball bat are cheap. They are also quite abundant, which is why you can make your own baseball anytime you want. You just have to remember the dimensions (2.75 x 42) of a baseball bat and the equipment used to create one. Do not worry about the procedures since they are very easy to follow.
Wooden Baseball Bat
The wooden baseball bat is the popular choice of beginners because of the distinct feel of laminated wood and this bat’s relatively small margin for error. It is also the cheaper of the two general types of baseball bats. You can easily shape your game into a competitive one if you choose to make this type of bat.
Materials Used:
high quality plywood
wood glue
fiberglass coating
sandpaper
pencil
chisel
handsaw
To create your own wooden baseball bat, you have to first sketch the outline of your bat. Grab a pencil and trace the dimensions of your bat on the sheet of plywood. When you have drawn the outline of your bat, use your handsaw to cut a wooden layer in accordance to the outline that you just made.
Repeat this process of sketching and cutting until you have enough wooden layers to create your own baseball bat. Join the layers together using wood glue then polish the structure using your chisel and sandpaper.
When your bat is smooth and has been rid of any excess edges, cover it with a sheer strip of fiberglass coating for added durability and to enhance the way it strikes the baseball when swung. You now have a wooden baseball bat for your favorite sport.
Metal Baseball Bat
The metal baseball bat is tailor-made for powerful hitters. The metal surface of this type of bat is sturdy and will not bend even if it consistently hits fastballs. It may have a greater chance for foul balls, but one precise swing can easily generate a home run. If you are a serious baseball player, the metal baseball bat will suit you best.
Materials Used:
sheet of metal alloy
baseball bat mold
metal boiler
cleaning solution
First, get the sheet of metal alloy and place it in a metal boiler. Set the temperature to over a thousand Celsius so that the metal will melt. Usually, metal alloys take a long time to melt, which is why you can leave for awhile.
When the metal alloy has completely melted, transfer it to a baseball bat mold. Remove the excess portions of molten metal to preserve the shape of the bat. Remember that a slight difference in its designated shape will change the properties of the bat and will contribute to more improper connections with the ball.
When the molten metal dries, you will have your new metal baseball bat. You can now work on your swing and master the hitting strategy for metal bats. Who knows, your metal baseball bat may be the missing piece before you can finally call yourself a pro player.
A baseball game will never be complete without its official club, the baseball bat. Create one and watch it create a good game out of yours. Swing away!
