Surah Al-Ma'idah is unanimously Madani Surah. Surah Al-Maidah was revealed in the whole of Medina. This is the last of the surahs revealed in Medina. Some have even called it the last revelation of the Qur'an. It is narrated from Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and Asma bint Yazid ( may Allah be pleased with him) that at the time when Surah Al-Maidah was revealed , the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was riding on a camel named 'Adbaba'. The extraordinary weight and burden that was usually felt at the time of revelation was felt as usual. Even when the camel became incapacitated due to the pressure of the weight, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came down. (Musnad Ahmad: 6/455)
