Modernism is such a broad movement, it would be hard to narrow down just one person. I think you could make the case the Jackson Pollock used organic shapes and patterns (motifs) to illustrate his point of view. Matisse as well used water/fluid lines to express illustrative and abstract concepts. Georgia O’Keeffe would be another fine example of nature through a modernist lens.
