Song selection overlaps somewhat with iTunes, but there are a lot of things that you won’t find on eMusic. eMusic used to focus more on indie musicians—the idea was that you could try things out cheaply, which was to everyone’s benefit. Price-wise, the best deal you can get is about 40–45 cents per track. (It used to be closer to 20–25 cents, but they are in the process of rejiggering their subscription pricing.) You pay once per month to download a certain number of tracks that month. If you don’t use all those downloads by the end of the month, you lose them. You can get a certain number of downloaded tracks for free just for signing up – it might be worth your while to do that, and that way you can browse the catalog yourself, and see what the subscription offers are.
