I have had this happen to me and heard many cases of it. I had one drenched the same way while biking. I also had a smaller Ipod go through the wash. I placed them in a bowl of rice each time and tried them the next day and they were and are still fine. I have had this occur with other device (blackberry, droid, etc) with no such luck. Being an avid biker and hiker my devices are just prone to this dampness. Its not like I have jumped in the pool with my phone in my pocket either.
