Why do they call people who become famous in the entertainment industry “stars”?

1 Answer

Answer :

Because they are actors or actresses (and others) who play principal roles and that stand out pre-eminently among the rest of us and their peers. Like stars in the heavens that stand out in the night. (Thanks to Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary, 1960 ed. for help acquired in answering this question.)
