This is completely untrue. I myself worried about this but after lots of research, I have discovered that during the supposedly 'Hamidian Massacre', the Great Sultan (call him Red Sultan if you like you cannot make me think he was a bad man) was dethroned, it was his captains who carried it out in his name.
