A filterable, ether-sensitive virus was isolated from Anopheles funestus caught in Tanga Province, Tanzania, in 1962. It is unrelated serologically to 43 arboviruses known to occur in Africa and has been named Tanga virus. Antibodies have been found in the sera of East African residents.
