They were unable to own property, noble women werecontracted to marry while still children to older men, and theywere not given civil rights. Women were chattel in most cases, butthere were a few who were able to break free. Katherine of Aragonwas one woman who could do what she wanted. She went to thecrusades, owned her property, was the mother of 3 kings, and thewife of two. She had a lot of power, but this was unusual in thistime period.
