Winter is a busy time for drivers, pedestrians and wipers alike. Icy sidewalks are one of the biggest winter troubles. Thank you for sprinkling sand and salt on them and helping people avoid falls and injuries.
How to get rid of salt stains on leather shoesHowever, the fight against icing roads brings us extra hassle of shoe care. Salt, which is sprinkled on icy sidewalks, mixes with snow and pieces of ice and leaves ugly stains on shoes. Dense particles of salt are firmly deposited on shoes and boots, leaving characteristic white spots on the shoes. But the problem is not only in the non-aesthetics of such marks on shoes, but also in their harm to our boots and shoes.
It is especially a pity to ruin leather shoes, since they are not cheap and are usually bought for more than one season. But do not give up before the problem of salt stains on shoes! With simple tricks, you can easily remove any traces of salt from your favorite boots or boots before it ruins the skin. But remember to do this regularly and immediately after the stains appear.
To remove white stains from salt on shoes, we prepare :
a bowl or bowl;
warm water;
white vinegar;
clean soft cloth;
paper towels or toilet paper (or cotton balls or discs);
leather shoe polish or polish of the corresponding color.
Remove stains as follows :
1. We check the shoes for the presence of salt particles in the seams and bends. If there are any, remove them with any blunt object so as not to damage the leather of the shoe.
2. We make a solution: pour one part of white vinegar into two parts of water. If the proportions are not observed exactly, this is not a big deal, because white vinegar is very delicate to the skin. The volume of the solution should be such that it is enough for both boots or boots. The larger the shoe and the more saline stains on it, the greater the amount of solution.
3. Fold a paper towel several times and immerse it in the prepared solution. Slightly squeezing, we wipe one area of the shoe with it, where there are salt stains. After the white spots have disappeared, blot with a soft cloth and wipe the area until it is dry. Thus, you should walk over the entire boot or boot, alternately cleaning the salt areas and drying them with another, clean and dry piece of cloth. We make sure that no water remains in the joints and seams of the shoes.
4. When the shoes have been cleaned of salt streaks and dried with a soft cloth, allow them to dry properly. Leave the boots or shoes to air dry for half an hour or an hour. But do not put your shoes near radiators, as excessive dryness and heat are harmful to leather shoes. When the shoes are dry, check for salt stains - salt may appear on uncleaned areas after the skin dries. If such stains remain, repeat the above cleaning procedure on these areas. Do not leave salt on the shoes, as in these places the skin can become crusty, become tough and crack over time.
5. When the shoes are completely free of salt stains and dry, they can be greased with shoe cream and polished. To do this, use a clean, soft cloth and leather shoe polish that matches your boots or boots. It is helpful to read the instructions on the shoe care packaging and follow their advice. If you regularly take care of leather shoes in winter, then they can serve you for a long time, and at the same time retain their attractive appearance and structure. After all, creams and polishers for shoes create an additional barrier that protects the skin from the saline solutions of winter sidewalks.
Attention! If you are unsure of what your shoe is made of, check the labels on your boots or boots before using this method of removing salt marks. A solution of vinegar in water can be ineffective and even harmful for cleaning materials other than genuine leather.
