What are Adenoids?
Adenoids or tonsils represent certain changes in the area of the pharyngeal tonsil. Most often, the appearance of adenoids is a consequence of infectious diseases such as diphtheria, influenza or measles. The most common manifestations of tonsils are children aged three to ten years. One of the signs of an increased proliferation of the tonsils of a child can be constantly being on sick leave and a constant runny nose.
The main symptoms
This disease is characterized by a sluggish nature, in the full sense, it is difficult to even call it a disease. The child often catches a cold, and the parents have to take sick leave. In turn, numerous sick leaves cause problems at work, and force you to see a doctor, who determines the presence of adenoids in the child. It is not possible to detect them at home, since enlarged tonsils can be seen only with the help of a special mirror used in the work of otolaryngologists.
The nasopharyngeal tonsils in the human body are designed to protect against the penetration of microbes that are absorbed through the nose along with the air. Adenoids produce special substances, lymphocytes, which neutralize microorganisms entering the nasopharynx. But they are the ones that can cause health problems. During illness, the adenoids in children increase in size, and then take their original shape.
If a person is more often (at intervals of less than a week), then the adenoids are constantly in a state of inflammation. They simply do not have time to take their original form, and as a result, they increase even more in size. This can lead to the fact that the size of the tonsils overlap most of the nasopharynx, and make it difficult for a person to breathe. Untimely medical intervention can lead to changes in the composition of the blood and the functioning of many important human organs.
