Answer :

Harappa is an archeological site in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is located 35 km west of Sahiwal. The site is named after a local village situated on the banks of the Ravi River. The present village of Harappa is situated at a distance of 6 km from the archeological site. Modern Harappa has been a train station since British times. But it is only a small Pakistani town. The site contains the ruins of an ancient Bronze Age fortress. It is part of Cemetery H culture and Indus civilization. It is believed that the city had a population of 23,500 . It was one of the largest cities in the world at that time. The ancient city of Harappa was badly damaged during the British rule. Bricks were brought from the ruins of this city and used for the construction of Lahore-Multan railway. History: The Indus Valley Civilization (or Harappan Civilization) has its roots in the Mehergarh Civilization of 6000 BC. Harappa and Mohenjo-daro, two of the best cities of the Indus Valley Civilization, were formed in the Indus River Valley in the Punjab and Sindh region by 2600 BC . The ruins of the Indus Valley Civilization were discovered in the 1920s at Mohenjo-daro near Sukkur in Sindh and at Harappa in the West Punjab, south of Lahore. In India too, multiple centers of this civilization have been discovered from the foothills of the Himalayas in East Punjab to Gujarat in the south. Traces of this civilization have also been found in western Balochistan. Although the Harappa archeological site was damaged during the construction of the Lahore-Multan railway in 1857, many antiquities have been discovered.
