The waltz is a partnership dance that evolved from southern Germany in the 17th century. Its popularity has continued to grow in the 20th century, influencing many dances throughout the United States of America, Europe and the rest of the world.
To be able to succeed in dancing the waltz, you should be able to to exhibit the proper posture, control and body alignment, among others. The involves mastering the basic elements such as the walking steps and the side steps. You should be able to learn how to control your movements to dance to this slow tempo.

You should first master the most basic position. This entails the man to generally lead while the woman follows. To do this, face your partner. If you are a man, you will usually be tagged as the “leader.” You need to be able to know how to hold your partner. Start by placing your right hand beneath your partner’s left arm. Extend your left arm and hold your partner’s right hand. The left hand of your partner should be on your shoulder.
They key here is to be able to learn how to step backward or forward properly while balancing your weight. There are four directions to master:
Go forward while pulling your partner with your hand on her body while pulling in your extended hand.
Go backward by gently pushing your partner away from you with the hand on her body. Extend your hand outward.
Gently go left by pushing your partner with the extended hand.
If you want to go to the right, gently pull your right hand to the right side.
Your partner should be able to mirror your moves and her feet should be in sync with yours or else you will be stepping on each other.
Repeat these basic moves until you master it before advancing to more complicated steps.
