Muhammad (peace be upon him), the last messenger of Islam, was persecuted by the Quraysh of Makkah and left Makkah for Madinah. His departure from his homeland is called ' Hijrat ' in Islam . The beginning of the Hijri year is to commemorate the migration of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from Mecca to Medina. This calendar was introduced as a lunar month seven years after the death of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in 16 AH, during the reign of Hazrat Omar, the second caliph of Islam. As a result of this historical significance of the migration of Hazrat Omar. During its rule, when it came to the preparation of separate and distinct calendars for the Muslims, they unanimously started counting these calendars from Hijrah. As a result, this lunar calendar is called 'Hijri year'.
