How To Macrame
Knitting and stitching giving you a hard time? Why not try macrame for a change. Marcame is a craft that involves knotting cords to make a decorative piece (In case you stil want to knit, read how to knit). You can make jewelry, key chains, wall hangings and even clothes by macrame. Here’s how to do it:
The Half Knot
Have one anchor cord and two knotting cords, with the anchor in the middle. Tape the anchor cord to the table or pin them on a piece of cloth.
Cross over the left cord over the anchor cord and under the right cord.
Grasp the right cord and put it under the anchor cord and through the loop in the L formed by step 2. Pull gently to make the knot tighter.
Both cords have now switched places, and you must repeat the knotting process. Remember that it’s just one process until you see what the knotted cords begin to look like.
The Square Knot

Again, start of with one anchor cord in the middle, with two knotting cords on each side.
Take the left cord and put it over the anchor cord and under the right knotting cord.
Grasp the right cord from underneath the anchor and slip it through the loop. Pull the strings slightly to tighten the knot.
The two knotting cords have now exchanged places, and they will be the new left and right cord.
The right cord should then be placed over the anchor and under the left cord. Notice how these are the same movements, albeit in the opposite direction,
Repeat the same movement to the left cord until you reach the end of the knot.
Combined with the half knot, you can make a lot of different things using these two knots alone.
Granny Knot
The granny knot follows the same procedure as the square knot, except for one step.
The knotting cords do not switch places. The left knotting cord will still be the left knotting cord while the right knotting cord is still the right.
The same side goes under the anchor cord and the same side goes over the anchor cord.
Combine these different knots according to your design. Use different-colored cords to make an interesting look.
