How to Break a Fever
Having a fever can cause dehydration lack of sleep and discomfort. Before rushing to your doctor, you need to observe the symptoms first and apply some home remedies. Here are some simple home treatments that you may want to try if you want to break a fever:
Drink lots of fluids.
When you have a fever, you may notice that you sweat a lot. An effective way to break a fever is to replace the loss of water from your body by drinking plenty of fluids such as fruit juices or plain water. Keep yourself further hydrated by drinking broths, beet juice, coconut water or any vegetable soup to help recharge your immune system.
Take the time off from school or work.
Get the needed rest by helping your body cool down and staying home. By staying at home, you can get to catch up on sleep and close your eyes to relax. Also, you get to avoid dust particles and any other substance that you may get by going to and from the office or school. To help reduce fever at home, remove excess clothes. If you are shivering you can use a light blanket.
Take the necessary medication.
Take Tylenol or other fever medication that contain acetaminophen. In between taking medicines, your body needs to build strength and gain energy so make sure you eat on time to recover from fever as soon as possible.
If you want to go herbal, you may want to drink a warm ginger tea to break your fever. Another effective method entails the use of egg white on the sole of the feet, covered with socks.
If all else fails, consult your doctor.
If an adult continues to have a fever that reaches 103 F or more, better seek medical assistance. Children should also be checked in a hospital or health center if fever is 102 F or higher.
