An autosome is a type of chromosome that has two replicas (derived from a father and a mother) of the same shape and during mouse cell division along its entire length, embracing each other (miotic recombination). The opposite of the autosome is the allozome (i.e. the two portraits are not identical) which is exemplified by the sex-determining chromosome.
