How to Do a Somersault
The somersault is a basic, but popular move done by gymnasts, but if you look around, you’ll see even young kids and teens attempting this move. The move is simple in theory, but when done inappropriately, can lead to a painful dilemma. If you want to learn how to somersault, here are some helpful hints.

Before You Begin
If you’re an amateur at somersaulting, there are several considerations have to remember first.

Wear something comfortable. Stretchy jogging pants and a blouse are great. Avoid jeans, since these can make it difficult for you to move. If you’re a girl, don’t wear a skirt.
Somersaulting repeatedly can make you feel slightly nauseous. Avoid drinking or eating too much before attempting a somersault.
Find a soft, padded and clutter-free surface to do this move. A rug, carpet or exercise mat will suffice.
Squatted Somersault
Squat down, your buttocks a few inches above the floor.
somersault

Lean forward, putting your weight on the balls of your feet. Spread your arms outwards slightly in front of you, on the floor. Push your body forward, the force coming from the balls of your feet. Tuck your head under as far as you can.
Touch your head’s back to the floor. Put some of your weight on the back of your head, then keep pushing yourself forward, still getting the force from the balls of your feet.
Push using your legs and feet, and until your legs straighten and you topple into a roll, beginning from the lower back of your head. Arch your back and head, so you won’t hurt your neck or back.
Roll in a seated position, your feet landing flat on the floor. You should be either sitting striaght on the floor or lying on your upper buttocks.
Somersaulting Standing Up
Compared to the squatted somersault, this is a much difficult to perfect. Don’t attempt this unless you’ve mastered the squatted somersault, or you might hurt yourself badly.

Bend far forward, your head nearly level with your hips. Your palms should be parallel and facing the floor.
Put your hands on the surface; at the same time, you should be lifting your legs. In this somersault, don’t let any part of your head touch the ground,
Transfer the weight of your body to the front. This can be a bit difficult.
Land on your back, then lift yourself up.
Somersaulting is fun, but make sure you keep yourself safe at all times. Keep practicing, and you’ll get the hang of it eventually. If you enjoy reading this article, you’ll surely learn more by reading how to do trampoline tricks.
