: Another name for chlorazylinol is 4- chloro 3,5- dimethyl phenol. It is a disinfectant compound. It is used to fight bacteria , fungi and algae (which grow in various containers used for water conservation). It is commonly used in antiseptic soaps , detoxifiers used in disinfecting household items , creams , and ointments , and in Vaseline. Because it acts as a disinfectant , this compound breaks down the bacterial cell membrane. Chlorhexidine is not as toxic to humans and other mammals. Non-toxic to birds. It is a moderate toxin for freshwater organisms. However, in the case of fish is extremely toxic.
