There are five types of Bengali words according to their origin. E.g. a. Similar words b. Half-similar words c. The word tadbhab d. Desi word e. Foreign words. A. Similar words: Sanskrit words that come directly into Bengali are called similar words. Such as - moon , sun , hand , head , tree , brother etc. B. Ardh-tatsam words: Sanskrit words which have entered the Bengali language with slight distortion are called Ardh-tatsam words. Such as- Housewife > Ginni , Nimantran > Nemantanna , Shraddha > Chheradda , Gram > Geram etc. C. Tadbhav Shabad: All the similar words which have been changed from Prakrit language to Bengali language are called Tadbhav Shabad. Such as - today > ajja > today , moon > moon > moon , hand > hand > hand, etc. D. Desi words: Desi words are the words of the original language of Bangladesh. Such as- Dhemki , Kula , Dhael , Khaeka , Moi , Uncle , coal etc. E. Foreign words: Foreign words that enter the Bengali language and are being used in the same way as Bengali words , are called foreign words. Such as - English words - chair , table , school , college , pencil , master , office, etc. Arabic words - Allah , Iman , Azan , Ibadat , Qur'an , Grave , Call etc. Persian words - Asman , Asbab , Namaz , Dalan , Darbar , Ukil etc. Portuguese words - papaya , pineapple , bread , soap , key , bucket, etc. Hindi words - cold , water , baby , dog , chanachur , companion , well, etc. Japanese words - rickshaw , sampan , harikiri , pagada etc. Chinese words- tea , sugar , luchi , cardamom etc.
