: The memory that accompanies the mathematical and logical part of the CPU is called primary memory or main memory . This memory is also referred to as Primary Storage . It is used to store running programs , data , instructions , processing results, etc. Initial memory has to be extremely fast. Therefore, its capacity is relatively low but the cost is high. When the mathematical / logical part of the CPU is computed, the data and instructions required for the calculation are temporarily lifted from the auxiliary memory to the primary memory. For example, RAM . It is also called semiconductor or semiconductor memory because it is made of semiconductor or semiconductor material.
