What is tape and tape drive ?

1 Answer

Answer :

Tape functions are performed with the help of plastic tape. One side of it is covered with ferrospheric oxide. It is used as input output and secondary memory. Tape has been used since the invention of the computer. It is half an inch to three inches wide and 2400 feet or more in length. On larger computers it is used as a tape reel or tape cassette. There are 8 or 9 rows along the length of the tape , called tracks. Pillars along the width are known as frames. Each frame code indicates a letter. Nowadays 9 track tapes are used.
