A wide area network is made up of multiple LANs or MANs located in a wide geographical area. Such networks are developed using telephone company cables. That's why wide area networks tend to be slow. Special devices and technologies are used to connect different LANs and MANs as they cover a wide area. One is really much tougher to plan than LAN. It is also difficult to manage. Satellites are used in many cases if Gaeta needs to build LANs around the world. Most wide area networks operate at speeds ranging from 56 kbps to 1.544 Mbps. The maximum speed can be 45 Mbps. One is said to be slow, but it is slowly changing.
