Hybrid Architecture Although the first two architectures are the most common, hybrid architecture is used in network layer applications , which are a combination of client server and peer-to-peer architecture. An example of this is Napster . This is the first MP3 file sharing application. Napster is called Pitupi , because MP3 file sharing is done directly between two hosts and at this time no other server is needed. Again the client falls into the server architecture in the sense that when a peer finds an MP3 file in a corner, the file that is in the corner peer is done through a server. Another example of hybrid architecture is instant messaging (chatting between two peers). The text message that is exchanged between the two peers here does not pass through the dedicated server in the middle corner. But when a peer launches its instant messaging application, it has to register on a central server. When someone else wants to chat, he or she communicates with the central server to find out who his or her acquaintances are online now.
