External commands: The program required to execute some commands is not always in the main memory. Instead, they need to be removed from the disk and brought to the main memory and then the command is executed. Such a command is called an external command. The program required for the external command must be on disk. Otherwise Bad Command or file name will be written. Examples of external DOS commands are DISKCOPY, FORMAT, DISKFCOMP, EDIT etc.
