Agriculture contributes 15% to India's GDP which sounds impressive but it is actually very poor as approximately 55% of India's population practices Agriculture. This means 55% of India's population contributes only 15% to the Indian GDP! The problem here is not that the farmer's don't work hard but the problem is in spite of working hard the Farmers are helpless and can't get right results. 86% of Indian farmers are small and marginal farmers where these farmers have a land measuring less than 2 HECTARES or in fact don't own any land! Purchasing a ₹5 lakh tractor is a huge investment for them. The Reasons for a typical Indian Farmer being poor and the solutions to address his problems are given below; REASON AND SOLUTION NO. 1 India is the 2nd largest food producing nation just behind China, but even then 7 out of 10 farmers are willing to give up Agriculture for new jobs. Many Indian farmers are poor because they don't have the power to see the future. IN AGRICULTURE A LOT OF THINGS DEPEND ON UNPREDICTABLE NATURE. The government can start up an agency which will help farmers in Predicting the Weather forecast, Pest attack etc. This agency can also guide the farmers to take necessary precautions and steps before the problem. The same way water consumption can also be controlled by learning the moisture content of the soil. TAKING ACTION AFTER THE PROBLEM OR DURING THE PROBLEM COSTS TEN TIMES MORE THAN TAKING ACTION AHEAD OF THE PROBLEM! REASON AND SOLUTION NO. 2 THE INDIAN FARMER IS POOR BECAUSE SOME BAD PEOPLE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HIM/HER. Farmers are duped while buying inputs in the market and when they sell their produce! Agents sell them ash in the guise of Fertilizers and then enrich themselves at the expense of Farmers! When the harvest is sub-standard, the farmer is forced to sell it at low rates in the market. THIS IS A VICIOUS CYCLE and we can help the poor farmers to escape out of this cycle. The government can start a campaign, policy or make a law in which it helps Farmers from Seed to Market. It gives Inputs, Seeds and Fertilizers at correct prices and buys their output at a competitive rate. They can go to the villages and convert the villagers into Micro Entrepreneurs and these Micro Entrepreneurs will work at Centres all over the country and then give inputs to the farmers and buy outputs from them. THEREFORE THE OUTPUT IS SOLD WITHOUT THE MIDDLEMEN TO INSTITUTIONAL BUYERS. WHEN FARMERS SPEND LESS ON INPUTS AND EARN MORE ON OUTPUTS, THE FARMER WON'T STAY POOR! The talks in India never move a step ahead and be implemented. We all know Indian Agriculture is broken but we never think or more precisely don't want to think of the solutions on how to fix the broken parts of Indian Agriculture. The protests are conducted but when asked about the things to be changed, we can only answer with a hashtag. Today, there are more than 1,000 agricultural startups in India and they have raised more than $240 million in 2019 alone! This is a proof that Indian Agriculture has potential but we are yet to sow and grow it like a plant! LET'S CHANGE OUR MINDSET A LITTLE BIT and support the FARMERS. WITHOUT THE FARMERS INDIA WHICH SUPPLIES GRAIN TO ALMOST 150 COUNTRIES WILL IN FACT HAVE A FOOD SHORTAGE CRISIS OR MAYBE A FAMINE IN IT'S OWN BOUNDARIES! KEEPING INDIAN FARMERS POOR MEANS KEEPING INDIA POOR! FARMERS HAVE TO BE RICH, RICH WITH KNOWLEDGE, TECHNOLOGY AND RICH WITH VALUE! JAI JAWAN! JAI KISAN! JAI BHARAT!
