You might benefit from a camera that has a Continuous Frame Shooting mode, where the camera takes 3 pictures per second. So, as your husbands car comes around the track you can start shooting ahead of time, and at least one (probably several) of the pictures will have the car in the position you want it in. If you couple this with a tripod, the shots should come out great. I’m not sure about other brands, but I know this function comes pretty much standard on Nikon SLR cameras.
