Since you will be using the camera in NYC, a heavily populated wi-fi area, have you considered buying a geotagging SD card instead? Then you could put it into a camera that you want based on the cameras other abilities, not just the one (non-camera related) requirement, gps. The geotagging SD card uses wi-fi positioning by Skyhook Wireless (the same tech. used for the first iPhone) so yes it is limited in that you can’t go out in the middle of no-mans land & expect it to figure out where you are. But I suspect if you remain within the city, it should be able tag most locations. It’s another option in case you didn’t know about it. Because the geotagging SD cards have built in wi-fi, you can also send all the pictures from your camera to your computer, without taking the SD card out. That’s always a plus. :)
